When you look up Day In The Life photography, you’ll likely come across photos of a heterosexual couple with children and possibly a pet. A day at the petting zoo, baking pancakes with the kids, a bubbly bathtime and finally: the children off to dreamland.
Though such a shoot can obviously be fun and valuable, I find that representation is often lacking. I barely ever see photos of more inclusive forms of a family: two women and a dog. A single non-binary person with a child. Polyamorous relationships. Multiple people who co-parent. Or how about chosen family? After all, a bloodline doesn’t define who you truly consider family.
But… Is ‘Day In The Life’ a Synonym For Family Photography?
Many photographers who specialize in ‘Day In The Life’ photography tend to focus on family photography. What they offer is often directed towards a plural ‘you’ and ‘the family’. And so it generally happens that ‘Day In The Life’ shoots and family photography are mentioned in one and the same breath.
I don’t focus exclusively on family in my shoots. Even though society is very focused on finding that one ‘missing puzzle piece’, you’re not complete only when you share your life with others. To me, ‘Day In The Life’ means literally that: a day in the life… whether this is alone or together. With family, friends, or (a) partner(s).

WHat moments do you capture?
In principle, ‘Day In The Life’ shoots are focused on capturing a ‘normal’ day of your daily life. But you can certainly also contact me if a special moment is coming up that you want to have captured in an unposed and unstaged way. After all, that special moment also happens on just another ‘day in the life’.
The moments I capture are very diverse: behind the scenes photos of your business, you practicing your hobby, your bandage removed after your mastectomy, or a walk with your dog. I’m also up for documenting a date night, a proposal, the reunion with your long-distance love, and of course a day with your family (in whatever form) or friends.
Longer projects are also very welcome. For example, are you in transition and do you want me to capture a longer period of time? We can set up multiple appointments over the year!
In short…
Long story short: my ‘Day In The Life’ shoots are simply focused on documenting someone’s day in an unstaged manner. Alone or together, a special moment or just another day!
